Pixel Plunder© is an exhibition of net.art which explores the idea of
artistic authenticity, intellectual property and copyright on the web
through satire, humour, parody, subversion, clever illusion and
skilful juxtapositions. The seven projects in Pixel Plunder© range
from a sanctioned’ hack of the Tate Modern's website by Harwood from
the Mongrel Collective; 0100101110101101.ORG 'Life Sharing'; which
allows the viewer complete entry into the artist's computer and
system folder; Duchampian Digital Readymades’ harvested through net
search engines by MTAA Collective; Joanna Briggs' Haikoo’ which
parallels and challenges the structure of web-based information by
borrowing and mimicking the popular search engine Yahoo;
Negativland's Pastor Dick's Mailbox’ a long time associate who has
been spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ since 1981; Trip Dixons
Cling Wrap & Gag - an organic remodelling of the interface meshed
with a playable re-creation device, to 'I Love Mouchette'...an
obsessive lovesite found on the web which features 'borrowed' files
from mouchette.org mixed with furtive snapshots of the famous
reclusive 13 year old net art star Mouchette discovered on the
streets of Toronto.
Pixel Plunder© is presented through the kind support of the Canada
Council for the Arts - http://wwwcanadacouncil.ca, InterAccess
Electronic Media Art Centre - http://www.interaccess.org, Instant
Coffee - http://www.instantcoffee.org, and the Ontario Arts Council -
