The 32 films collected here present the range of experimental film works in 
Germany in the 90ies.
The newer works starting from 1998 are being emphasized. The programs 
include works of foreigners
living in Germany as well as of Germans living abroad.

What all these works have in common is the subjective look of the authors. 
All works are authentic
testimonies of personal perceptions and reflections: these could be 
documentary-focused
perspectives, formal-playful studies or richly decorated and computer 
generated picture-worlds. All
authors have an interest in reporting of themselves as individuals and 
their personal look at the world.

Beside this subjective look also the reflection on the artistic media and 
conditions itself is
typical for all works introduced here (experimental film as metafilm). 
While formal thoughts
concerning the technical reproduction media lose their significance (e.g. 
the esthetic differences
between film and video), general topics of picture production move 
increasingly to the fore-ground:
the personal and social ‘dealing’ with pictures.

Questions are being asked: how fare cause private or public picture-worlds 
identity? (manipulation)?
What does it mean to go public with private pictures? (voyeurism)? And 
above all: how can it be
possible to assert one’s own visions against the prevailing media conventions?

Die hier versammelten 32 Filme sollen das Spektrum der experimentellen 
Filmarbeit in Deutschland der
90er Jahre präsentieren. Dabei liegt der Schwerpunkt auf neueren Arbeiten 
ab 1998. Die Programme
umfassen auch Arbeiten von in Deutschland lebenden Ausländern sowie von 
Deutschen, die im Ausland leben.

Allen Arbeiten gemeinsam ist der subjektive Blick der Autoren. Alle 
Arbeiten sind authentische
Zeugnisse des persönlichen Wahrnehmens und Sinngebens: das können 
dokumentarisch-fokussierte
Perspektiven, formal-spielerische Studien oder aufwendig inscenierte und 
computergenerierte
Bildwelten sein. Immer liegt das Augenmerk und Interesse der Autoren darin, 
von sich selbst als
Individuum und ihrem persönlichen Blick auf die Welt zu berichten.

Neben diesem subjektiven Blick ist auch die Reflexion auf die 
bildkünstlerischen Mittel und
Bedingungen kennzeichnend für alle hier vorgestellten Arbeiten 
(experimenteller Film als Metafilm).
Dabei verlieren formale Überlegungen zu den technischen Reproduktionsmedien 
an Bedeutung  (zB die
ästhetischen Unterschiede zwischen Video und Film). Zunehmend aber rücken 
allgemeinere Themen der
Bilderproduktion in den Vordergrund: der persönliche und gesellschaftliche 
‘Umgang’ mit Bildern.

Fragen werden gestellt: Inwieweit sind private oder öffentlich-mediale 
Bilderwelten
identitätsstiftend? (Manipulation). Was bedeutet es, private Bilder 
öffentlich zu machen?
(Voyeurismus). Und über allem: Wie kann es gelingen, sich mit eigenen 
Visionen gegenüber den
herrschende Bildkonventionen zu behaupten?
