Mediaterra in Belgrade
 22-23 September 2001

The three-day events of Medi at terra festival in Belgrade, which have been
co-organized by Dom Omladine and the artist Aleksandar Gubas, have
concluded with a great essential succes .
Dom Omladine is a cultural multi-center for Belgrade’s youth. It is
located in the center of the city and it includes to its facilities a
bookstore, a record shop, an internet cafe, a club, a billiards room,
projection theatres and a large space for expositions.
Inside these floors filled with young people eager to start the life
they deserve, the Medi at terra festival and the MicroMuseum were set-up.
Three days full of events, the microMuseum stayed open all day until
late in the evening,, but also many other activities were organised on
the occasion of Medi at terra such as concerts, dj parties, exposition of
computer animation, debatets, panel discussions and round tables,
everything creating a dynamic pole that will certainly be the reason for
many forthcoming developments in the area of digital culture in
Belgrade, as well as the begining of a close collaboration between
Fournos and many cultural centers and artists from the
During the Medi at terra events there were also presentations of the
centers co-organizing the festival, as well as the presentation of the
award winner project : Passing Drama by the Greek-German artist Angela
Melitopoulos, along with the project Timescapes for which the artist
collaborates with Fournos.

A lively and quite interesting one was the activity Scene Strike IV
with new artists from the city, which has been organized for
Medi at terraby the team Corrosion. Scene Strike was one of the most famous
festivals / workshops for new media in Belgrade before the war. This
tradition has been interrupted because of the political situation and
revived, three years later in the occasion of Medi at terra festival’s
journey to Belgrade. The artists with their computers and their
peripherals made a marathon of 48 hours of creating electronic music and
animation. For 48 hours the data projectors, the large speakers of DOB
club and the computers did not turn off at all and the participants took
turns in sleeping on the seats only for a couple of hours each.
Throughout this event the legendary Amiga, which is not at all out of
date in these places, was praised.

Another surprise was the arrival in Belgrade of the German artist Georg
Brandt who paricipates in the microMuseum with his project Portable Self
Detector. His project is also the first acquirement of the permanent
collection of the microMuseum as a gift from an artist to the
Medi at terra festival.

The Greek embassy was also present not only by helping the Greek team in
customs formalities, but also with the presence of the cultural attache
in the opening of the events.
