 Groupe Intervention Vidéo (GIV)
http://www.givideo.org
The selection of videos for the projection component is a way of looking
critically at our own collection, of pulling out tapes that are important to
aspects of our distribution/dissemination history. Our official name bears
witness to an era. It is also the reflection of video as a medium that
questions and provokes. For those to whom "GIV" is synonymous with
"social-issue documentary", they are referring principally to one aspect of
our collection and history.

* School presentations *
 Pursuing the goals of presenting works made at national and international
schools, methods and objectives of teaching in the audiovisual area,
encouraging the discussion and the interchange of perspectives and
know-how, VideoLisboa 2001 invited ESTGAD, from Caldas da Rainha and NMS
from Sheffield to come and show recent works made by their students and to
give us a presentation of their institutions. We welcome a special
participation from all those who are in any way related to teaching in the
audiovisual area, students or teachers, and to all those who wish to attend
meetings filled with creative freedom, where many discoveries may be made.

 * Videos by Great Filmmakers *
Continuous partnership between VideoLisboa and Festival de Curtas Metragens
de Vila do Conde / Vila do Conde Short Film Festival, initiated on the first
edition of the festival. This section of the festival is dedicated to the
approaches made between filmmakers and video language and particularly to
those who don't see any borders separating cinema and any other support of
images in motion: the transposition of formal frontiers.

* VideoGallery *
The videogallery is a dynamic cooperation between six european media
festivals. At the end of the competition each festival chooses it's best
film and video works that will compose an interesting fund of about 30
tapes, which circulate trough the six festivals and ART Basel. Each year the
partner festivals make a new selection of master works.
Participating festivals: EMAF, Osnabrueck, Germany; VIPER, Basel,
Switzerland; International Festival of new Film and Video, Split, Croatia;
IMPAKT, Utrecht, The Netherlands; VideoLisboa, Lisbon, Portugal; Media Non
Grata-OfflineOnline, Tallinn, Estonia.

* Romarias *
The major novelty this year, apart from the promotion of works in CD-Rom
format, is the introduction of the Web dimension to this space; for the
essential and important role it plays on the lives of more and more people
everyday, but mainly, for its quality as a creative and communicational
media, with an unprecedented ability for crossing borders of all kinds. The
resuming of our bet on the CD-Rom, despite its somewhat limited future, is
due to its capacity of anticipating possible formats, such as the Internet,
the DVD and the interactive television. We gave preference to works that
stood out for their content, but also for the speed of their navigational
interactivity, proposing new forms of associating transmittable ideas.
