DIGITAL DIALOGUES
An Ongoing Series of Moderated Conversations on New Media

November 7, 2001
7:30 pm

Digital Dialogues is the SFAI's ongoing series of discussions on different
aspects of artistic production, curatorial practice and theories of new
media. Inaugurated this past spring with a panel on "Curating Byte-Based
Art" during the Art Institute's presentation of the exhibition Telematic
Connections: the Virtual Embrace, this series brings artists, critics,
curators, engineers and historians to engage in focused conversations about
the multiple meanings and modalities of "the digital" across disciplines.

The second program of the Digital Dialogue on November 7, at 7:30 pm in the
Art Institute Lecture Hall, will be a discussion on current new media
practices in France and the United States, with artists, a curator, and a
representative from the French Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Moderated by
BENJAMIN WEIL, curator of new media at the San Francisco Museum of Modern
Art, the panel will include San Francisco-based new media artist and
designer ERIK ADIGARD, and three visitors from France:

PASCALE CASSAGNAU, from the Ministry of Culture's Division of Plastic Arts
which commissions and supports work in visual and media arts including
video, photography, multimedia, cinema and television;

ERIC SADIN, new media artist/editor and theorist, publisher of ecart
digital magazine (www.ecarts.org); and

GREGORY CHATONSKY, a media/performance artist.

After a presentation by each panelist, Weil will lead the group in a
discussion, which will be followed by a performance by Gregory Chotonsky
and Eric Sadin, RE:ENGINEERING, an exploration and re-embodiment of what we
once referred to as "the text."

Admission: $6 general; $4 members, alumni, seniors, students, and disabled;
SFAI students free

This event is co-sponsored by the San Francisco Art Institute and the
French Consualte of San Francisco.
