Avanto 2001 is Helsinki's annual festival of experimental music and moving 
image.

Avanto highlights the continuities between several generations of 
experimental art; many of this year's artists share a common critical 
attitude towards the prescribed uses of technology. From the minimal sounds 
of the onkyo school to the recontextualization of mainstream visual 
culture, Avanto once again offers hardcore avant-garde art combined with 
liberating laughter and sub-arctic madness.

Avanto - Helsinki Media Art Festival is organized by Team Avanto, a group 
of independent organizers, in co-operation with the Kiasma Museum of 
Contemporary Art and the Finnish Film Archive.
