Ninagawa Years: "Shintokumaru"

A shrill, scratching noise and bright sparks cut through the
darkness of the Saitama Arts Theatre, and after a can is kicked
onto the stage from somewhere, a number of abandoned, misshapen
creatures appear slowly out of the depth of the stage, all lined
up in a row. From that moment, right until the the curtain falls
after protagonists Nadeshiko and Shintoku turned their backs on
the audience and disappeared shoulder to shoulder into the darkness,
I'm watching and listening concentratedly, almost without breathing.
I fell in love with "Shintokumaru" at first sight…

In an interview for a web design magazine I talked to editor and
photographer, Tsuzuki Kyoichi recently. We discussed various
(negative) trends in web design, while comparing REALTOKYO and
Tsuzuki's "IMA" (Internet Museum of Art), an Internet museum
project he launched on 12/10. Details of the interview will appear
in the February issue of "Web Designing" magazine (January 18,
2002 on sale), but I want to use this occasion to introduce here
the interesting concept of IMA…
