“59 Seconds International Video Festival”

Il Progetto 59 “59 Secondi Festival”, partito per la prima volta nel 
2005 da Franklin Street 59, in Tribeca, New York City, presenta nei 59 
filmati, 59 storie realizzate da ognuno degli artisti, usando nei loro 
lavori il numero 59. Si può trattare di un dramma così come di una 
metafora per la configurazione di corti nella video arte. Il 
progetto“59 Seconds”   dà un'opportunità di presentare diverse 
audiences ad un grande numero di artisti ed una serie ampia di lavori 
video. Si spazia dai piccoli documentari alla satira politica, dalla 
tragedia e commedia alla metafora, dalla narrativa alla ricerca 
sperimentale, dai tagli irritanti, irriverenti, provocatori, 
controversi, creativi, ironici. Un video-pensiero (se così si può 
definire) che include una raccolta unica e variegata di videi 
originali, che hanno integrato il numero 59. Come ha scritto il San 
Francisco Bay Guardian 12/7/05:  "Massimo divertimento nella minima 
durata…".
La raccolta dei video del “59 Seconds International Video Festival” ha 
avuto un suo sviluppo attraverso tre richieste  di aperti 
internazionali. Presentarono i loro lavori circa una dozzina di artisti 
dall'Italia e/o di origine italiana. Fra loro "59 in Time" di Antonio 
Della Marina (Udine) - disegno illustrato di numeri accatastati da 1 a 
59 che simboleggia l’ispirazione di un  momento iniziale della sua 
vivace animazione  digitale - un grande esempio dell'abilità di un 
artista di agire, di reagire e di interagire in un concetto determinato 
insieme alla fredda numerazione 59 in numeri romani "LIX" di Dubi 
Kaufmann e le “59 Pellets" e “Both Ends” di David Lachman.  Questi 
videi, con "Rituali Urbani" di Massimo Lovisco, nella scoperta di  uno 
dei campi di calcio di Potenza (il football) arricchiscono la raccolta  
del “59 Seconds Festival”. La manipolazione di un’immagine con il 
numero 59 di Michele Santarsiere  (Potenza) con il suo "Io ottenni 
Preoccupazione", porta una sfaccettatura nuova, così come "Anche la 
parola uccide", il video-performance del Gruppo Sinestetico  (Albertin, 
Perseghin, Sassu,  Scordo) calcolato in 59 secondi.
La selezione dei 59 video funziona con la collaborazione di un pubblico 
internazionale,  diviso tra gli Stati Uniti, Germania, Austria, 
Polonia, Repubblica  Ceca e  Slovacchia. In questo tour italiano sarà 
presentato a Roma, Potenza, e a Campagna (SA). Una raccolta selezionata 
di  59 videi, con il numero 59 che caratterizza ognuno dei 59 artisti 
internazionali, mostrato 59 volte. L'ultima meta è la Seconda edizione 
del “59 Seconds  International Video Festival”.
 
“59 Secondi Video Festival”  è parte del Project 59, un lavoro di dieci 
anni ideato da Irina Danilova (dal  2003 in collaborazione con  Hiram 
Levy),  dove il numero  59 è una guida ed un mezzo che inietta  
abbastanza casualità nel processo creativo, mentre aiutando a rompere 
gratuitamente le costrizioni soggettive e culturali, offre una ragione 
arbitraria, libera da ogni condizionamento, per penetrare nella realtà, 
con tutti i suoi problemi e le attività umana, nel nome di una libertà 
e di un’autonomia che contraddistingue  la ricerca artistica.

Launched by Project 59  in 2005 at 59 Franklin Street in Tribeca, NYC, 
59 Seconds Festival introduces 59 videos and animations, 59 seconds 
each by artists from around the world, who were encouraged to embrace 
number 59 in their work. Being a play off as well as a metaphor for the 
short video art format, 59 Seconds Festival gives an opportunity to 
introduce to different audiences a large number of artists and a wide 
range of video works - mini documentary, political satire, tragedy, 
comedy; metaphorical, narrative, experimental, edgy, controversial, 
creative and thought provocative video, including a unique collection 
of videos that integrate number 59. "Maximum entertainment in minimum

 The video collection of 59 Seconds Festival was developed with three 
international open calls.  About a dozen artists from Italy or of 
Italian origin submitted their works. Among them "59 in Time" by 
Antonio Della Marina (Udine) - pictorial design of stacked numbers from 
1 to 59 symbolizes the expiration of time in his vivid digital 
animation  - a great example of an artist's ability to act, react and 
interact in a given concept (along with the pun on 59 in Roman numerals 
– "LIX" by Dubi Kaufmann and David Lachman's "59 Pellets" and "Both 
Ends"). "Rituali Urbane" by Masimo Lovisco with his treasured finding 
at one of the Potenza soccer (football) fields energizes 59 Seconds 
Festival collection. A manipulation with image of number 59 by Michele 
Santarsiere   (Potenza) in his "I got Worry" brings a new facet as well 
as video performance of Gruppo Sinestetico (Albertin, Perseghin, Sassu, 
Scordo.) timed to 59 seconds, "Anche la parola uccide".
 59 video works, selected with the help of international audiences in 
USA, Germany, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, and Slovakia, will be 
shown on this Italian tour to Rome, Potenza, and Campagna. A collection 
of selected 59 videos, 59 seconds each by 59 international artists, 
shown 59 times around the globe is the ultimate goal of the 59 Seconds 
Video Festival.

59 Seconds Video Festival  is part of Project 59, a ten year effort led 
by Irina Danilova (since 2003 in collaboration with
Hiram Levy),  where number 59 is both a guide and a tool that injects 
just enough randomization into the creative process, helping to break 
free of subjective and cultural constraints, providing   an arbitrary 
reason for penetrating into any issue or activity for artistic 
research.
