Dear All

I am back from "mon petit Liban", 

I will start my short e-mail by thanking you all for your positive and supportive emails you sent.  They chaperoned me to Lebanon calming the disquietude and all the anxieties I backpacked in my body and thoughts.

Once I arrived to Lebanon, I delivered all the messages and the money. (By the time I reached Lebanon I have raised £2100). 

I delivered the money to Hospital Hammoud in Sayda in the South, and the educational programme led by Shams, Mada and other organisation. (Please see the attached letters!)

In the few days I spent in Lebanon, I witnessed the traumatic traces of the July war. I interviewed many civilians from different ages and different professions. They all had a common attribute, "They all want to live a normal life." I asked what is a normal life, the answer was: "I want to be able to go to school, or office or to see my family friends, for the rest of my life without fearing a war around the corner.

What was most amazing to me was to see how much of the reconstruction process is already under way. Lebanese communities have moved quickly to clean up the rubble of war. Young University students were rebuilding the houses in the south, most Lebanese were working together on rebuilding, and compensating for the time lost. Professionals were installing the new electrical lines and transformers that are quickly returning light and heat to communities and schools and that will power the generators and pumps to bring back regular supplies of water. 

After meeting with the Shams theatre group, and discussing their plans in the South of Lebanon I am raising funds for their future activities (please look @ the attachments).
