Huh? I have no need to impress anyone. NN's female
node is not someone I particularily like or dislike -
she's just part of the kfor email list and Jennifer
Harding's a friend of mine from grad school that I
haven't heard from in several months, so "impressing"
her is not an issue.

It is. Gravy is a type of sauce - usually heavy and
laden with fat and carbohydrates, it is usually found
on meat dishes (beef, chicken, turkey) It is a
somewhat gratuitous aspect of a meal, rarely necessary
if the meat is cooked properly, and is occassionally
used as an american colloquialism for "something extra
that is desireable, if unnecessary". As a
colloquialism, it seems to be somewhat generational
(older) and from my experience, more common in the
Boston / NY / DC megapolis, but I have heard in the
South as well, where gravy and biscuits is a common
dish.

"I did something with the code, and suddenly out
popped not only the data I was looking for, but a pile
of stuff I knew I had to get later - it was all gravy,
my friend - and it made things better for me."

best regards,

HW
