DJ Ray Velasquez (Nettwerk Records)
Video Art by Vanessa Ramos-Velasquez
Veteran 80's Rockpool club/radio DJ/ music journalist has played in support of, or in association with New Order, PIL, Sugarcubes, Killing Joke, Primal Scream, Moby, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Moev. Nine Inch Nails, and Genesis P. Orridge (Psychic TV), contributed to the liner notes of the Wax Trax! Black Box Set, and DJ'd behind the open casket at the wake of legendary beat poet William S. Burroughs.
In collaboration with wife and Brazilian video/performace artist Vanessa Ramos-Velasquez, the duo performed a live DJ/VJ set as the Sabotage Sound System opening for Suicide and The Homosexuals last summer at the Knitting Factory.
In an inspired Warholian spirit, Pop Life celebrates and subverts the familiar and obscure through sound and vision.
Vanessa Ramos-Velasquez: The PopLife live video concept revolves around the Warholian portraiture of American Pop icons or anything that has been integrated into American Pop culture. 15 minutes of fame and counting.... re:media saturation/decomposition and fragmentation of the "real" into broken particles of representation.
Special Guest VJ- Jodele Larcher: The visual interventions of "Azóia" (Jodele Larcher) have been seen in several events of the Brazilian music scene big names, such as Gilberto Gil, in important festivals, such as Rock in Rio Lisboa, Skol Beats (during DJ sets of Grooverider, Patife e Marky), Festival de Verăo de Savador e PercPan, and in events lead by brand names like Diesel (performing with DJ Moby), Storme Nissan. Recently, he performed in the Pepsi "trio elétrico" at Skol Beats, alongside Carlinhos Brown and DJ Dolores.
This Friday, he will integrate his own brand of political video art, visuals of ritualistic gatherings of various ethnic origins, and other assorted images from his magic HD.
Mundial is a sleek and intimate video lounge in the East Village designed by Sylvain Bazinet and featuring a glass DJ booth and mobile video table sculptures designed by architect Mike Latham of the Arts Corporation.
